RSS News Feed FAQs
What is a RSS News Feed?
"Really Simple Syndication" (RSS) is an XML-based format for content distribution. InvestorsLending.com offers RSS feeds for use in news readers and Web logs (blogs). These feeds include headlines, summaries and links back to InvestorsLending.com for the full article. RSS feeds are free and InvestorsLending.com currently uses RSS 2.0.
How do I use RSS?
Typical applications for consuming or using RSS include:
- Using a program known as a News Aggregator to collect, update and display RSS feeds
- Incorporating RSS feeds into weblogs
News Aggregators (also called news readers) will download and display RSS feeds for you. A number of free and commercial News Aggregators are available for download. Popular news readers are shown to the right. Many aggregators are separate, "stand-alone" programs such as these; other services will let you add RSS feeds to a Web page.
How do I subscribe to a RSS news feed?
The orange RSS news feed button
indicates that a site is publishing a news feed. The button is usually linked to the site's RSS (news feed) file. If you click on the button, you may find your browser is filled with a bunch of strange looking text. Don't panic! All you need to do is copy the URL in your browser's address bar. Alternatively, you can right click on the orange RSS news feed button and select "Copy Shortcut" from the menu (Internet Explorer). Now go to your news reader and add the URL to your list of feeds. This is generally through an "add feed" button or menu option which varies depending on the news reader you've selected.
Another way many people use RSS feeds is by incorporating content into weblogs, or "blogs". Blogs are web pages comprised of usually short, frequently updated items and web links. Blogging as a publishing tool is used for many purposes: traditional journalism, personal journals, group discussions around a topic, and many combinations in-between.
